How to make Turkey Cookies with Sugar Cookie Mix in a Bag
So there I have given my first trick. I used a bag of sugar cookie mix to make the base of each cookie.
Now you could absolutely use my Cream Cheese Sugar Cookie dough to make them but I wanted these guys to be totally simple and stress free, so I went SUPER simple.
Follow the back of the package and add what it directs you to do. In my mix it asked for butter and egg.
Using a hand held electric mixer, combine the ingredients until you have a super smooth sugar cookie dough.
Using a medium cookie scoop, scoop mounds of dough onto a cookie sheet that is lined with a silicone mat {or parchment paper}.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes or as long as the recipe on the bag directs.
I was really impressed and delighted with how nicely they turned out. The bonus…is that they were totally delicious just like this.
Assembling your Turkey Cookies
Once the cookies were completely cooled, the real fun began. I got everything out that I needed so that I could do an assembly line of sorts.
1. Put some white buttercream {I used store bought} onto the back of a mini Nutter Butter cookie. This my friends, is going to be the turkey’s head.
2. Put it frosting side down close to the bottom of the sugar cookie. We want to be sure that we leave room for the feathers.
3. Now we are moving on to the edible eyeballs. Add a little frosting to the top of the head in two spots for attaching the eyes.
4. Then add an edible eyeball to each spot and press down slightly.
5. Repeat by adding some frosting in the middle of the two edible eyeballs for the nose to adhere.
6. Then take a candy coated sunflower seed {or butterscotch chip} and press it into the frosting. Such an adorable beak.
7. We can’t forget the wattle. So using a single red sprinkle, add a small amount of frosting and then carefully add it to the turkey by the beak.
These can be kind of fragile while you are working with them. Using tweezers helps.
8. The feathers {aka candy corn} are a cinch to attach. Just be sure that you are adding enough frosting.
9. Using a fan shape, attach 5 candy corn feathers around the top edge of the Nutter Butter cookie. Voila!! Our adorable Turkey Cookie is complete and ready to eat.

Finally, add five candy corn to each cookie. Make a fan shape above the Nutter Butter head being sure to add enough frosting that they will stay in place.
-
Allow the frosting to set up before stacking the cookies.
