Overripe Banana FAQs

Can you eat overripe bananas?

Yes, overripe bananas are totally safe to eat.  There have even been a few studies that say overripe bananas are actually higher in vitamin C and have a wonderful natural sweetness.

If you find that getting over the blackened skin isn’t something you can do then use them for baking.  That is when the bananas are perfect for a recipe your whole family will love.

What can I do with overripe bananas?

The possibilities are endless when it comes to using old bananas.  Mashing them up into a crumb cake, cookie, blondie or even a no bake cheesecake are a few of my favorites. I believe that the best banana recipes start with them {like this Banana Crumb Cake}.

Can I freeze overripe bananas

Sometimes we have overripe bananas but don’t have time to use them right now. The great news is that they can easily be frozen. Place them in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Pull them from the freezer and defrost when you are ready to turn them into one of my favorite banana recipes.

Do bananas last longer on the counter or in the refrigerator?

They will last a bit longer in the refrigerator. But there is something to keep in mind. The will bananas stay in their current state. Meaning that they will slowly ripen, if they do at all. So if you have green bananas this might not be the best option.
