Pepperoni Pizza Chicken Skillet is a one pot dinner that has all of the flavors of pepperoni pizza.  The difference is that instead of crust, we are using chicken breasts.

Of course, you could always serve the Chicken Pepperoni Pizza Skillet on garlic bread if you miss the crust.  At my house we prefer a bed of pasta.  Either way this easy dinner idea is absolutely delicious!

Ingredients Needed

  • Thin Sliced Chicken Breasts-If you can’t find thin sliced chicken breasts then purchase the thicker ones and cut them in half yourself.  That is what I usually do.
  • Olive Oil-Added to the skillet to help brown the chicken and keep everything from sticking.
  • Italian Seasoning-The perfect seasoning for a dish that has an Italian touch.
  • Salt-Added to the spice mixture to help bring out all of the other flavors in the dish.
  • Black Pepper-For a bit of heat but red pepper flakes could also be added if you want more.
  • Mozzarella Cheese-Sliced mozzarella cheese works great for this dish but a shredded version could also be used.
  • Pepperoni Slices-Whatever your favorite brand is can be used to give the chicken a great pepperoni flavor.
  • Pasta {or pizza} Sauce-Using pasta sauce is great because you can purchase it in a larger container but pizza sauce could also be used.

How to make Pepperoni Pizza Chicken in a Skillet

  1. Combine spices in a small bowl and evenly coat the outside of each chicken breast.
  2. Warm a large skillet over medium high heat, add olive oil.
  3. Once the oil is warm, add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook on the first side for 3-4 minutes or until browned.
  4. After 3-4 minutes turn the chicken over and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes.
  5. After 3-4 minutes, turn the heat down to medium low and add sauce.
  6. Cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes.
  7. After 5 minutes turn heat to low and add a slice of cheese.
  8. Then add four slices of pepperoni to each chicken breast. Cover again and continue to cook until the cheese is completely melted and the chicken is cooked through. Serve each chicken breast over cooked pasta with a sprinkle of fresh basil.

The best type of chicken to use in this Pepperoni Pizza Chicken Skillet is thin sliced chicken breasts.  The reason being that they cook quickly.  

We also want them to be then because we are adding cheese and pepperoni to the top, so a thick chicken breast would be harder to manage and create a huge serving.
