To me, the most important meal of the day is…DINNER. I don’t care for breakfast {unless it is something sweet…like a cookie}. In fact most days I practice Intermittent Fasting until lunch and it doesn’t bother me in the least. Dinner is when I am ready for a good meal. That being said…it doesn’t always happen. I do my best. I meal plan, I shop and then life happens. It is important for me to have a few “go to” meals that I can turn to when it is one of “those nights”. Am I alone?
This Italian sausage ricotta pizza recipe is awesome because who doesn’t love pizza? It is also great because it only takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. I love that you can buy pizza dough right in the deli section of the grocery store. It is inexpensive and a great time saver.
This sausage ricotta pizza ring could just as easily be made into a regular ole’ pizza but I decided to jazz it up a bit. Plus, we have one at our house who doesn’t like sauce and so it was nice to serve it on the side and make it optional. I used a mixture of ricotta and mozzarella because…why not?? Cheese is popular around these parts!! I am excited to try some yummy variations, Chicken with Alfredo or BBQ sauce, Canadian bacon & pineapple, Taco…the possibilities are endless. Please excuse me, I need to go make a pizza ring. Enjoy!!
Italian Sausage Ricotta Pizza Ring
Ingredients
- 1 pizza dough ball
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese {or cream cheese}
- 1 tbsp Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp oregano
- 1/4 tsp basil
- 1 pound Italian sausage {cooked and drained}
- 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese {shredded}
- 1 jar marinara sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll pizza dough out onto a round cookie sheet, that you have sprayed with non-stick spray. Cut three small lines, crossing in the middle to make a star.
- Add ricotta to a small bowl and mix in Parmesan cheese, pepper, salt, garlic powder, oregano and basil. In the space between the edge of the dough and the center cuts, spread ricotta mixture. Add cooked Italian sausage on top of ricotta mixture and top with mozzarella cheese.
- Gently pull each point of the star over the toppings and press into the outer crust. Repeat until all of the cut sections are pressed into the outside crust. It will look like a ring.
- Bake your Italian sausage ricotta pizza ring for 18-21 minutes or until golden brown. Heat the marinara over low heat and pour into a bowl. Place bowl in center of ring and enjoy!!
Notes
- To get an extra crispy and golden crust you can use an egg wash {1 egg beaten} before it is baked.
