This Hawaiian Dip instantly transports me to my favorite place—Maui. The combination of a creamy, savory-sweet blend of chopped ham and juicy pineapple tastes just like island paradise.

Hawaiian dip in a white bowl and ready to serve!

I have been making this Hawaiian Dip recipe since my first trip to Hawaii back in 1994. I had something similar to it while I was visiting there after my high school graduation and now I make it anytime I am missing the islands.

I love taking it to summer events but have to admit that I get asked for it all year long. Being able to use canned pineapple makes it super versatile.

Ingredients Needed for this Recipe

The ingredients needed to make Hawaiian Dip.
  • Ham- I love to use leftover ham but grabbing a ham steak or lunch meat will also work wonderfully. If you don’t have ham, try using chopped bacon instead.
  • Pineapple- The pieces should be about the same size as the ham, so I either use pineapple tidbits, crushed pineapple or chop pineapple rings. During the summer I will also use fresh pineapple for an extra special taste.
  • Cream Cheese- Creates the base of the dip and gives it a wonderful creamy texture.
  • Green Onion- Adding a few chopped green onion pieces to both the dip and top of the dip gives the sweet dip a savory kick. Chopped chives would also work wonderfully as a substitute for the onion.

Add-In Ideas

While this dip will definitely remind you of a Hawaiian pizza, it can be fun to add additional ingredients to the recipe.  Add a quarter cup of shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green or yellow pepper, diced celery or other ingredients you have on hand.

Expert Tips

  • Use full fat cream cheese. This ensures that you will have a flavorful and creamy dip that stores well.
  • This is a wonderful make-ahead recipe. It actually gets better as it chills and I love it most on the second and third day.
  • Get creative with how you use this Hawaiian appetizer. While it is great with crackers, it is also delicious on a tortilla or even on a sandwich.

Storage

Store leftover easy Hawaiian Dip in a good airtight container {or cover in plastic wrap} in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
