This Cake Mix Apple Cobbler Recipe is one of the most popular on my site, and for good reason. The cake mix topping bakes up golden and buttery over perfectly spiced apple filling. It’s easy enough for weeknights but special enough for holidays or gatherings.

This apple cobbler is perfect for those times when you need a quick dessert that still feels impressive. With just a handful of ingredients, it delivers all the warm, cozy flavors of a homemade treat. The spiced apples bring everything together beautifully—just like in my Apple Crisp Skillet and Apple Crumb Cake recipes.

So when you need a dessert everyone will love, this is the one I make. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and no one will believe how simple it was.

Ingredients Needed

  • Cake Mix: I used a vanilla cake mix but white and yellow cake mixes can also be used.
  • Fresh Apples: Granny smith apples are my favorite when baking because the tartness pairs so well with the sweet topping.
  • Cinnamon and Nutmeg: The perfect spices to bring out the natural flavor of the apples and give you a warm hug.

How to Make a Cake Mix Apple Cobbler

Begin by cutting a stick of butter into cubes and placing them into the bottom of your baking pan.  Place the pan in the oven so that the butter can melt.

While you wait for the butter to melt, core, peel and slice the apples.  Place in a bowl and add 1/4 cup of dry cake mix, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg to the apples.  Mix until the apples are well coated.

Adding sugar and spices to fresh apples for the filling.

Now it is time to turn your attention to the SUPER simple batter. In another large bowl pour the milk over the remaining cake mix.

Next, add the apples to the top of the cake batter, being sure to distribute them evenly over the entire cake.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.

Baking the apple cobbler until it is golden brown and delicious.

Although it is phenomenal at room temperature, warm is where it is at.  Serving up a piece of this cake straight from the oven is like a little piece of heaven.

The apples soften up and the brown sugar makes a thickened caramel sauce that is better than any cinnamon roll.  Did I mention the delicious cake on top?  This is sure to be a new favorite at your house too.

Storage

This easy to make cake mix cobbler will keep well when it is tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or moved to a good airtight container. It will keep for 3 days at room temperature and 4-5 days in the refrigerator.

It can also be frozen for up to 2 months which makes it a fun make-ahead recipe that is perfect for serving any time of the year.
