What goes into this recipe
- Golden Oreos: These vanilla sandwich cookies are the base of our truffles. I like their sweet vanilla flavor, but regular Oreos work too if you prefer a chocolate version.
- Cream Cheese: Use full-fat cream cheese for the best texture. Make sure it’s softened to room temperature so it mixes easily with the cookie crumbs.
- White Chocolate: I like to use Ghirardelli candy melts because they melt easily and give the perfect finishing touch. As a more budget friendly ingredient, try using vanilla almond bark. You could also change the type of chocolate you use by melting dark or milk chocolate.

How to make Golden Oreo Truffles
- Place the Golden Oreo cookies to a food processor and pulse until you have fine Oreo crumbs.
- Add the softened cream cheese to the cookie crumbs in the food processor and continue to pulse until the mixture comes together. Note: You can also use the back of a spoon or your hands if you prefer.
- Use a small cookie scoop to scoop the truffle mixture into your hand and roll into a smooth ball. Place the Oreo balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Freeze or refrigerate the balls for at least 15 minutes. This helps them hold shape when dipping.
- While the truffles are freezing, melt the white chocolate. Put it in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 15-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.
- Take the truffles out of the freezer. Dip each ball into the melting chocolate, letting excess chocolate drip off.
- Place the coated truffles back on the lined sheet. Quickly sprinkle a few cookie crumbs on top before the coating sets. Let the truffles set completely at room temperature or pop them in the fridge to speed it up.
Expert Tips
- Use a food processor to get fine crumbs. This ensures a smooth texture in your truffles. If you don’t have a food processor-no problem, add the Oreos to a large plastic bag and use a rolling pin to help break them down into small crumbs.
- Make the truffle balls with a cookie scoop. This helps keep the size of my truffle balls consistent and easy to dip.
- Don’t skip the step of freezing or refrigerating the truffle balls before dipping. This helps them keep their shape in the warm chocolate.
- Melt the white chocolate slowly. Use short bursts in the microwave and stir often to prevent overheating and burning the chocolate.
- Use a fork for dipping. It allows excess chocolate to drip off easily.
- Work quickly when adding the topping. The white chocolate sets fast, so add cookie crumbs right after dipping each truffle.
- Chill to set faster. Put the truffles in the fridge if you want the coating to harden more quickly.
Storage and Freezing
Store: Keep these Golden Oreo truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll stay fresh for up to 1 week.
Freeze: To keep the truffles longer, you can freeze them for up to 2 months. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until firm, then transfer to a freezer bag or container. When you’re ready to eat them, move them to the refrigerator to thaw slowly. This prevents condensation from forming on the white chocolate coating.
Recipe FAQs
While you can use low-fat cream cheese, full-fat cream cheese gives the truffles a richer flavor and better texture. The truffles might be a bit softer with low-fat cream cheese.
You can use white chocolate chips instead. Melt them the same way as the almond bark. If the melted chocolate seems too thick for dipping, try adding a small amount of vegetable oil or coconut oil to thin it out.
To make festive Golden Oreo truffles, add holiday sprinkles to both the truffle filling and the top of the truffles. You can also use colored candy melts to match holiday colors {like green or red for Christmas or pink for Valentines Day}.
