What is a Sticky Bun?

A sticky bun is basically a cinnamon roll {in this case a refrigerated cinnamon roll} that is made even more amazing because it is baked in a caramel sauce.

Once baked the rolls are inverted and the caramel sauce becomes the top of the rolls for this wonderfully delicious and sticky topping that goes perfect with the cinnamon roll.

How to make Sticky Buns using Refrigerated Cinnamon Rolls

Any great cinnamon bun starts with a delicious caramel sauce.  Sometimes that means minutes of stirring a thick and hot liquid on the stove top but not this time.

To make our delicious caramel all you have to do is combine brown sugar and heavy cream.  Whisk to mix the ingredients well and help to dissolve the sugar.

Pour that awesome mixture into your greased 9×13 baking pan and then top it with pecans.

To get the perfect pecan topping, we are using a combination of whole and chopped pecans.  Adding both gives you pockets of pecans with nice bites that pack a punch.

Bake the rolls in a 350 degree oven for 25-28 minutes or until the rolls are a nice golden brown and baked through.

The amazing caramel pecan topping will also be bubbling up.  As it bakes a magical thing happens.  Part of the caramel soaks into the the cinnamon rolls while the other part creates this wonderful gooey caramel sauce.
