These Halloween brownie bites turn a box of store-bought brownies into a whole batch of tiny, adorable bats in about half an hour. Grab a few brownie bites from the bakery section and you’ve got everything you need to pull this off without turning on the oven.

Made with ingredients you can find right in your grocery store, this is more of a fun craft than an actual recipe, and that’s exactly why we love it! It’s also a great project to make with your family. Everyone will love turning plain brownie bites into a little colony of bats!

Every one of them ends up looking a little spooky, a little cute, and completely irresistible.

I am not someone who wants to celebrate Halloween with blood and gore. I like my Halloween a little cuter and a lot more lighthearted, so if bats are going to show up at my party, they better be adorable.

I’ve made these before with my culinary students, and they’re always a hit. Everyone gets a kick out of turning a plain brownie bite into a tiny bat, and the whole batch disappears just about as fast as it comes together.

Serve them next to a slice of Halloween Candy No Bake Cheesecake or a plate of Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies for a full spread of Halloween treats.

Ingredients Needed

  • Brownie Bites – Look for these already baked in the bakery section of your grocery store.
  • Chocolate Frosting – A canned frosting works perfectly here and pipes into a swirl easily.
  • Thin Sandwich Cookies – Cut in half, these become the wings. Oreo Thins work great for this.
  • Edible Eyeballs – The finishing touch that gives each of these bat brownies its personality.

How to Make Brownie Bats

  1. Fill a piping bag (or a Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off) with chocolate frosting. Pipe a swirl of frosting on top of each brownie bite, starting at the center and working your way up and around.
  2. Press two edible eyeballs into the frosting near the top of the swirl.

  1. Take two cookie halves and press them into the frosting just behind the eyes, close together but not overlapping, so they read as a pair of wings.
  2. Repeat until every brownie bite has been transformed into a little bat.

Pro Tips

  • Press the cookies in firmly. The frosting is what holds the wings in place, so push each half down until it’s anchored, not just resting on top.
  • Keep the wings close but not touching. You want them close together for the bat shape, but overlapping wings end up looking more like a blob than wings.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll keep for up to 5 days, so these are easy to make a day or two ahead of your Halloween party.
