The Quiet Magic of an Early Morning Walk

There is something incredibly powerful about an early morning walk.
Not the rushed kind.
Not the “get your steps in” kind.
The quiet kind.
The kind where the world is still waking up and you feel like you have it almost entirely to yourself.

In the summertime, I love to roll out of bed right as day begins to break. I pull on a tank top, throw a light shirt over it, lace up my walking shoes, and head out the door with nothing but my thoughts.
No phone calls.
No noise.
No expectations.
Just me and the road ahead.
This time of day feels different than any other.
Softer somehow.
The world is quieter in the early morning, which makes every little sound feel amplified in the most beautiful way. The birds seem louder and clearer, like they are welcoming the day before the rest of us even notice it has arrived.
There is usually the slightest breeze brushing against my face, cool enough to feel refreshing before the warmth of summer settles in for the day.
And nature feels so alive.
Mama deer and their babies graze quietly in the tall grass.
The trees move gently in the wind.
And once in a while, if I look carefully enough, I spot a bald eagle perched high on a telephone pole preparing for the morning ahead.
“Hello, Mamu.”
I still think of her every single time.

Those walks have become more than exercise for me.
They are where my mind clears.
Where ideas come alive.
Where worries soften.
Where dreams feel possible again.
Sometimes I think about recipes.
Sometimes my kids or grandbaby.
Sometimes future trips, projects, gatherings, or all the things I still hope to do in this life.
And sometimes I simply walk in silence and let myself notice the world around me.
I think we underestimate how healing it is to begin the day slowly.
Before emails.
Before scrolling.
Before responsibilities start pulling at us.
There is something grounding about hearing your own footsteps.
About breathing fresh air before the world becomes loud.
About realizing the day is still untouched and full of possibility.
Because in those early hours, before anything has gone wrong or right, life feels wonderfully open-ended.
Anything could happen.
The possibilities are endless.
And maybe that is why I love those walks so much.
Not because they change the world around me…
but because they quietly change me before the day even begins.
Sweet Wishes,
June
