5 Secrets To The Perfect Cookie

Tips & tricks to achieve the most delicious cookies of your life!

What are Thumbprint Cookies?

Thumbprint Cookies got their name because most recipes instruct you to use your thumb to make an indentation either before or after baking.

That center {or hole} in the cookie is then filled with something sweet. While we think of these popular cookies as an American treat, they originated in Sweden.

Thumbprint Cookie Tips

Thumbprint Cookies are not necessarily hard to make but there are a few tips that can make it a bit easier.

  • Use a cookie scoop to make sure that all of the cookies are the same size. This will help them not only look uniform but they will also bake at the same rate.
  • Roll the cookie dough in your hands to create a smooth cookie dough ball. Some recipes will instruct you to roll them in sugar for added texture. Either way, rolling them gives you a smooth cookie that looks awesome.
  • Use a tart shaper to make the indentation in the middle of each cookie. This creates the perfect sized hole and will allow you to fill it up with lots of delicious filling.
  • Read the instructions to see whether you will be making the thumbprint before or after baking. Some recipes will require you to bake the filling with the cookie and others will have you add the filling after baking.
  • Use a glaze, icing or sprinkle of powdered sugar to give your Thumbprint Cookies a special touch.
