Today I have a really fun mash up recipe for you.  Pancakes meet donuts!!  I mean really though…what could possibly be bad about that combination?  Nothing!  Add a really fabulous maple glaze and you may never want to eat a regular pancake again.  Unless of course you have ever had the privilege of eating one of my dad’s.  I am not a breakfast eater but those pancakes can convert even me.

Now you could absolutely make a homemade batter for these but I decided to use Bisquick.  It is Practically Homemade after all and I assume you are here because you want really great recipes that don’t take a ton of time.  I couldn’t use the basic ingredients on the back of the box though, I add a few extras to make the donuts super delicious.

The first thing you should do is either sift or whisk the dry mix.  That way it will go from looking like this.

To this!  Now quick breads are supposed to have pockets of flour in them but you don’t want a pocket the size of a quarter.  I have a sifter but would rather use my whisk for jobs like this because it is easier to pull out.

I mixed all of the wet ingredients together {minus the melted butter} and added it to the dry mix.

Combine the ingredients and then at the end, add the melted butter and mix it in.

Be sure to spray the donut pan well with non stick spray.  You can spoon the batter into the donut rings or pour the batter into a large Ziploc bag, cut the corner off and pipe it into them like I have done here.  I have done it both ways and it is so much simpler to do it this way.

Bake them for 9-10 minutes and then let them cool in the pan for only a minute or two before you turn them out of the pan.  I had to take a knife and run it around the edges for my donuts to come out of the pan.

While the donuts are baking, begin working on the glaze.  Combine the butter and brown sugar together in a small saucepan over low heat until the butter is melted and the sugar is almost completely dissolved.

Then add the remaining ingredients and whisk until smooth.  You can dip them directly into the sauce pan but I poured it into a bowl first.

A quick dip into the glaze and the Pancake Donuts with Maple Glaze are ready to set up.

The best part?  Taking a bite.  You get the taste of the pancake with the maple glaze and I just can’t quite explain how amazing they are.  Plus, they are totally adorable and super fun!  Your kids will LOVE them.  I hope you will make them and eat your pancakes with syrup in a whole new way.

Pancake Donuts with Maple Glaze

Jazzed up Bisquick pancakes are baked in a donut pan and topped with a delicious maple glaze.

Ingredients

Pancake Donuts

  • 2 cups pancake mix {I used Bisquick}
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup milk {I used 1/2 cup milk & 1/2 cup buttermilk}
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp butter {melted}

Maple Glaze

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp corn syrup
  • 2 tsp maple extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Prepare donut pan by spraying each donut ring generously with non stick spray, set aside.  Measure pancake mix and sugar into a medium bowl.  In a separate bowl combine milk and egg, whisk together and add to dry ingredients.  Stir ingredients together and at the end, add melted butter and stir.  Fill donut pan by either spooning mixture into rings or filling a Ziploc bag and piping the mixture.  Bake for 10-13 minutes.  Remove from oven and cool for a minute and then turn donuts out of pan.

Maple Glaze

  1. While the donuts are baking, combine the butter and brown sugar in a small sauce pan over medium heat.  Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is mostly dissolved.  Remove from heat and add remaining glaze ingredients.  Whisk until smooth.  Dip baked donut tops into the glaze and set onto wax or parchment paper to set up.  Best served immediately.  Store leftovers in an air tight container at room temperature.
