The BEST Cereal Milk Frosting

This simple and delicious Cereal Milk Frosting is made with milk that has been steeped with your favorite cereal. It is delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup favorite cereal
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup butter {softened}
  • 2-2 ¼ cups powdered sugar
  • 1-3 teaspoons milk {if needed}

Instructions

  • Pour the heavy cream over the cereal and allow it to sit for 20-25 minutes. After the cereal has steeped in the heavy cream, drain the heavy cream from the cereal {keeping the heavy cream and discarding the cereal}.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the butter and beat for a minute or until it is light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and cereal milk to the butter and continue to mix until it is a thick consistency. Note: If the frosting is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk at a time until you get the right texture.
  • Divide the frosting between cooled cookies or spread out onto a cake using the back of a spoon {or an off-set spatula}. Top with additional cereal and enjoy!.

Notes

  • If you don't have heavy cream use whole milk. The higher fat the milk the more it will hold the cereal flavor.
  • Do not allow the cereal to steep in the cream for longer than 30 minutes. If it soaks in the cream too long the cereal will absorb the milk.
  • Whip the butter with an electric mixer for a minute or two before adding the other ingredients. Skipping this step may result in a frosting with chunks of butter.
  • Mix the frosting until it is smooth and creamy. Over mixing it could make the ingredients separate.
  • Only add the buttercream to cooled baked goods. If you add it to something that is too warm it will melt.
  • Refrigerate the frosting after making. The addition of milk products makes it keep longer when refrigerated.
