How to Make a Giving Plate

Happy Thanksgiving dear friends!  Today I am republishing an older post because I feel like it is the perfect time.  As we enter the holiday season {especially this one}, my goal is to concentrate on giving.  The gifts don’t have to be expensive or outrageous {although that can be super fun}.  I am going to focus on giving the gift that is especially close to my heart…FOOD!  Food is comforting and makes people happy, so why not?  I love the idea that the Giving Plate just keeps going and going, continually sending love from home to home.

I also love the saying on the plate and as your friends/family eat the goodies they can read it.  Then they can fill it up and pass it on to someone who they are close to.

How to make a Giving Plate

I have to admit, the idea is not mine.  I saw it on Pinterest but I thought it was too awesome not to share.  Especially because it is so easy to make the Giving Plate.

I purchased the plastic charger from Michael’s {but any plate will do}.  I then wrote the words on it with a permanent Sharpie marker.

If making the plate isn’t your thing then you could always purchase one.  This one is super cute and this is a set of 3, so triple the fun!

From there, all you have to do is fill it up with treats and pass it on to family and friends to enjoy.  Then it repeats and moves on to someone else.

5 Tips for Preparing a Giving Plate

  1. Don’t get caught up on the treats having to be homemade! The most important part is the giving.  If you don’t have the time to bake cookies…buy them and don’t sweat it.
  2. Add a little card to the Giving Plate.  Let the lucky people you are giving the plate to know just how important they are.
  3. Think about allergies when you make/buy the goodies.  If you know the people well enough then you know what they are allergic to.  If you don’t then stay away from nuts.
  4. Fill that baby up!  Load the plate with delicious treats so that it is plentiful.
  5. If you can’t hand deliver it then text or call and let them know you are leaving it.  That way they will know to grab it from outside.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if at this time next year this plate was still bringing happiness?  Or even better…if you got it back and could refill and gift it again!!

The treats can be anything…cookies, cake, brownies, candy, bread, muffins…anything.  I of course vote for COOKIES!

My site is full of super delicious dessert recipes that would be the perfect addition to the Giving Plate.  Here are the cookies I plan to put on mine.

Enjoy!  Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Giving!!

  1. I think a name and date on the back would be fun, just to see where the plate started and ends up hopefully years down the road.
