The combination of apple and caramel is something that they write movies about.  Add a little cinnamon to the mix and you won’t believe how amazing these caramel apple turnovers are!

Ever since I was a young girl caramel and apples baked together has been one of my favorites.  Stuffing them into a puff pastry only adds to my excitement.

Puff pastry is such a fun product!  In only about 15-20 minutes it transforms from this flat pastry to layers of flaky dough that is good with both sweet and savory fillings.

I always have some in my freezer because you just never know when you might have a craving.  Especially when there are recipes for Caramel Apple Turnovers around.

5 Secrets To The Perfect Cookie

Tips & tricks to achieve the most delicious cookies of your life!

How to Make the Easiest Caramel Apple Turnovers EVER

Each box of puff pastry comes with two sheets of pastry.  We are going to use both.  Take them out about 25-30 minutes before you plan to use them so they can thaw and come to room temperature.

Unfold them and cut each one into four squares {I like to use a pizza cutter}.  Top each square with a heaping tablespoon of canned apple pie filling.

Place the filling in the middle of the square.

Next, top the apples with caramel sauce.  The amount you add is really a preference.  I added a teaspoon to each square.

Now it is time to fold them over and seal these babies up.  It can be a little tricky but fold the pastry in half, making a triangle.

If you over fill them the filling will squeeze out the edges of the turnovers.  That can make them hard to seal but not impossible.

As you can see I may have gotten a little carried away with filling.  So I just used a paper towel to wipe away any excess filling and then used the tines of a fork to crimp the edges.

I also added a few pricks with the tines of the fork on top of the turnover.  This will allow steam to escape while they bake and keep them from exploding.

Place the turnovers onto a baking sheet that is covered with parchment paper or a silicone mat.  This will help with clean up and sticking.

Bake the Caramel Apple Turnovers in a 400 degree oven for 18-20 minutes or until the outsides are golden brown and puffed.

You can see that some of the filling oozed out of the pastry but it only adds to the deliciousness.

The Best Apple Cider Glaze

Finally, as if they weren’t awesome enough I decided to add an Apple Cider Glaze.  Combine the powdered sugar, apple cider, corn syrup and vanilla to a bowl and whisk until smooth.

The corn syrup is optional but will allow your glaze to set up much quicker.

You want the consistency to be thick enough to stay on the turnover but thin enough to be pourable.

Drizzle the delicious glaze over the top of each turnover and then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before the glaze sets up.

Could they be any more magnificent?

Ingredients

Turnover

  • 2 sheets puff pastry dough
  • 3/4 can apple pie filling
  • 1/4-1/3 cup caramel sauce

Apple Cider Glaze

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp apple cider
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp corn syrup {optional}

Garnish- Cinnamon & Sugar

    Instructions

    • Remove puff pastry from freezer about 20-30 minutes before you are ready to use them.
    • Preheat oven to 400°.
    • Unfold both sheets of puff pastry and cut each one into 4 squares. I like to use a pizza cutter.
    • Add a heaping tablespoon of apple pie filling to the middle of each square of puff pastry dough. Top apple pie filling with a teaspoon {or so} of caramel sauce.
    • Fold each square in half, making a triangle. Remove any filling that comes out the sides with a clean paper towel. Using the tines of a fork, crimp the perimeter of the triangle to seal the edges of the turnover. Then use the tines of the fork to poke 2-3 holes in the top of turnover to allow for steam to escape while they bake.
    • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the turnovers are golden brown and the pastry is puffed. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes.

    Apple Cider Glaze

    • While the turnovers are cooling, combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until smooth. Adjust the amount of apple cider according to how thick or thin you would like the glaze. I like the consistency to be thick enough to stay on the turnovers but thin enough to pour. The corn syrup will help the glaze set up faster.
    • Drizzle the glaze onto the turnovers and then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while the glaze is still wet.
    • Serve your caramel apple turnovers warm or at room temperature.
    • Store in an air tight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. They are best fresh.
